On Wednesday, May 12th, The Great Mississippi Seafood Cook Off took place in Biloxi, MS. Eight Chefs from various restaurants around Mississippi entered the contest under strict rules and guidelines. They were to prepare a dish using local seafood for 6 judges, including James Beard Award winners, John Besh and Martha Foose. Of City Grocery Restuarant Group, John Currence was the M.C., Vishwesh Bhatt, Chef de Cuisine at Snackbar and Heath Johnson, Chef de Cuisine at City Grocery each participated. Vishwesh took the crown for 1st place! He prepared Pan Seared Triple Tail with Crab, Corn and Green Tomato Relish with Collard Greens and Peanut Slaw. Heath won second place with his Pork Rind Crusted Soft Shell Crab, Sweet Corn and Smoked Gulf Shrimp Fritter Cakes and Mirliton Radish Green Apple Vidalia Onion Salad.
Vishwesh will go on to compete in The Great American Seafood Cook Off, held in New Orleans on August 07,2010.
