On Wednesday, June 15th, Heath Johnson, Chef d’Cuisine at City Grocery took first place at the 2nd annual Great Mississippi Seafood Cook Off. The event took place in Biloxi with seven Mississippi chefs competing for a spot in the Great American Seafood Cook Off in New Orleans on August 6th.  The seven chefs included Heath Johnson, Aaron Russell, David Crabtree, David Crews, Glenn Clarke, Tremayne Davis, and Mark Eakes.  Heath’s dish was pan-fried crabcake with watermelon/chile salsa, marinated cucumbers and tomatoes, and crispy potato ribbons.

Drew Stevens, of Snackbar was the M.C., and last year’s winner, Vishwesh Bhatt, Chef de Cuisine at Snackbar started things off with a cooking demonstration of coriander shrimp, which the audience got to sample.
